Small beginnings...

The Craft Mill was started by accident. A happy accident of course, but we never meant for it to get as popular as it has.

Since our tiny beginnings, we have made hundreds of Shoe Racks, scores of Benches and (literally) a shed load of Shelves!

Our ever growing family were fast running out of shoe storage, we had hundreds of them! Shoes, boots, wellies, flip-flops, trainers, sandals etc etc. I decided to put my skills to good use and after a trip to our local DIY store, I came back with a couple of scaffold boards and a bunch of screws, ready to make... something!

Behold our first piece of scaffold board furniture was created!

A fully functioning shoe rack, sure the design needed some refinement, but all our shoes were now neatly staked under the stairs. Once again I could walk into the house without fear of tripping over a pair of high heels!

...continued growth!

"Ooh, that looks nice", said a friend of my wifes. "Where's that from?" she asked...

Another, more refined set of shelves was made. Then another and another. In fact, most of our friends seem to have something made by me in their homes!

Next, some chunky shelves for the kitchen, complete with steel brackets, which I sprayed black. Then I started getting a bit more ambitious and made a dining table.

Suddenly I was being asked for all kinds of things that people needed in their homes.

"You should put those on Facebook" came the next helpful bit of advice. Why not? I thought.

A week later people who I didn't know and who didn't know me, were asking me to make them my shoe racks!

"Can you make a table?"

"Can you make me a bench for the garden?

"Do you do beds?

Blimey, I was in business!

About-Banner_Aug22_01.jpg

Ever since then we have gradually built up our small business, gradually honing our skills and adding to our product range.

We try and stick to a few core products, and do them well!

Of course, we are always open to suggestions and now we find that a good percentage of our work is commissioned, one-off pieces that suit a specific need.

The quality of our products is down to the passion we have for making them, cutting, sanding, planing, staining... we just enjoy the whole process and get a real buzz from creating something great out of a bit of wood!

So far, our customers agree!
